Early College History

Early College

Our Early College journey has been a process, beginning with the offering of only a few dual credit classes and resulting in a well-orchestrated Early College Program. GCHS has developed a robust and loyal relationship with Ivy Tech Columbus. We continue to truly value Ivy Tech's strong commitment to assist GCHS in providing these educational opportunities for our students. In addition, GCHS follows proper procedures, increases curriculum offerings, and supports teacher credentialing.

The class of 2015 was our first graduating class to participate and take full advantage of earning the Indiana College Core (ICC, formerly the STGEC). These students were recognized during the Honor Day Program and again at Graduation. They received their high school diploma and the ICC from Ivy Tech. This process of honoring ICC students has continued for each graduating class since this initial cohort.

As each cohort has advanced through high school, the number of students earning both dual credit and the ICC has steadily increased. GCHS is extremely proud that our students have this opportunity to participate and enhance their postsecondary educational options. GCHS graduates continually measure up and, in many instances, surpass their postsecondary classmates.

When GCHS earned endorsement as an Early College High School in December 2017, it was well noted within the school, community, and Ivy Tech. Our students, teachers and parents truly understand how Dual Credit Classes, Dual Enrollment Classes and the ICC could work independently for some students and collaboratively for others.

GCHS continues to move forward in its quest for providing the optimal education for all students by focusing on the eight core principles:

  1. Targeting Students
  2. Curriculum
  3. College-Going Culture
  4. Rigorous Instruction
  5. Student Success
  6. Collaboration & Partnerships
  7. Leadership & Staffing
  8. Data Use
