Senior Year Preview

SENIORS... Outside of the School Counceling Office is a huge wall of important info for you to check out from time to time; such as

College Visit Dates, Testing Info and Scholarship Information. Please become familiar with this area so you

don’t miss out on something you are specifically interested in.

You will have many Scholarship opportunities throughout the year.

The major Scholarships-Lilly (Mid August), Decatur County Community Foundation (early January) and

Locals (early March) will be announced when they become available.

However, there are many others that will be posted on

the Scholarship Board and School Counceling website (Scholarship Information) as they become available.

WHAT SENIORS NEED TO DO.......

I. APPLY TO SCHOOL(S)

Apply to School Choices...Now – Nov. 1st

Kick off to COLLEGE GO! Week..Monday, September 25~29th, 3:00 pm ~7:00 pm Apply during this time and have application fees waived at selected Indiana schools...check with our school counseling department for a list of participating post secondary institutions.

II. APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID

File the FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid - Oct. 1st ~March 1st, 2018 Student Aid Report.

  • report comes back to student to verify all information submitted on FAFSA is correct

  • establishes an EFC = Expected Family Contribution

  • EFC is a constant, no matter where the student plans to attend school

III. COMPARE FINANCIAL AID PACKAGES

Must have applied and been accepted for a school to send a financial aid package

 Est. Cost   =  $3,600
 $22,000  $55,000
 EFC          =  -$5,000  -$5,000  -$5,000
 Difference =   $ XXXX  $17,000  $50,000

 

  • Difference may be made up by Scholarships, Grants, Loans and/or Earn Indiana

  • Can accept or reject any part of the offered financial aid package

  • Compare financial aid packages and see who gives the best financial deal
