2017 LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

                                                                       (Available March, 2017)

 ALL SCHOLARSHIPS LISTED ARE AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY AND ARE DUE TO HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING OFFICE ON THURSDAY, APRIL 6th  AT NOON UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN  THE SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION.**

 BOBBY BUERGER SCHOLARSHIPS AND BERNIE H. & MARY L. HUMPHREY SCHOLARSHIPS:  Sixteen awards for $1,500 / Renewable.  Based on career goals, academics, conveyed personal information, financial need, etc.  One application applies for consideration of both scholarships. 

CHARLES & CATHERINE REMY SCHOLARSHIP:  One award of $500 / Renewable.  Based on need as well as academics.  Must attend an Indiana post-secondary school.

CLASS OF ’63 SCHOLARSHIP:  One $500 award.  This award is based on character, educational plans, and scholarship.

DAUGHTERS OF ISABELLA SCHOLARSHIP:  One $500 award.  This scholarship is based on need as well as academics.  It is available to any student, regardless of religion, race, or sex.  

DECATUR COUNTY PURDUE AG ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS:  The number of awards and amounts has not been confirmed at this time.  Student must enroll in the School of Agriculture at Purdue University.  

DECATUR COUNTY PORK PRODUCERS SCHOLARSHIPS:  Possibly three awards of $1,000 each.  These awards are open to all SDHS, NDHS, and GCHS seniors who plan to further their education beyond high school.  Based on academics, recommendations, essay, etc.

EAGLES AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP:  One $300 award.  Applicant must plan to further his/her education at a vocational, trade, or technical educational program at the post-secondary level.  Based on need.  Applicant’s entire program of study must be two years or less.

ENHANCED TELECOMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION SCHOLARSHIPS:  A total of 6 scholarships:  one $5,000; two $2,500; and three $1,000 awards.  Based on academics and extracurricular involvement.  Open to a ten county region.                     

 GODDARD DEPAUW / PURDUE SCHOLARSHIPS:  Two awards of $1,500 each  /  Renewable.  This scholarship is based on merit, academics, class standing, extracurricular activities, financial need, etc.  Also, the applicant must plan to further his/her education at either DePauw University or Purdue University.

GODDARD VOCATIONAL, TECHNICAL, ASSOCIATE, and/or BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS:  One award in each of these four areas will be given and each award is $1,000.  These scholarships are open to any senior who plans to further his/her education in any of these four post-secondary areas.  Applicant’s entire program of study must be two years or less.

GREENSBURG ADULT BIG BLUE BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS:  Two awards of $250 each.  One boy and one girl will be selected from student athletes /cheerleaders who plan to advance their education beyond high school.  Based on character, scholarship, leadership, and any other characteristics indicating a worthy recipient.

GREENSBURG COMMUNITY SCHOOLS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP:  One $500 award.  Based on academics, class rank, extracurricular activities, etc.  Open to any student planning to further his/her education beyond high school in any career field and at any post-secondary school.   

GREENSBURG FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE SCHOLARSHIP:  One $1,000 award.  Based on academics, class rank, and essay.  Open to any student planning to further his/her education beyond high school in any career field and at any post-secondary school.   

GREENSBURG INDIANA ROTARY CLUB SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARDS:   Three awards of $500 each.  This award is open to NDHS, SDHS, & GCHS seniors.  Based upon applicant’s accomplishments and service experiences.  **Deadline:  Tuesday, April 4th

GREENSBURG KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS:  Two awards of $700 each.  This scholarship is based on a GPA of at least a 3.0, financial need, and academic achievement.

INDIANA UNIVERSITY – OSCAR EWING SCHOLARSHIP:  Amount of award to be established / Renewable.  Based on academic excellence, moral character, leadership, community service, and extracurricular activities.  Must attend Indiana University – Bloomington.

LILLIAN M. KNOX ELEMENTARY EDUCATION AWARD:  One $500 award.  Selection for this award is based on scholarship, high moral character, church, school, and community involvement, and pursuing a career at an Indiana college in the field of elementary education.

MEL BEST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:   One $1,000 award.   Based on academics, financial need, work, extracurricular activities, and community activities.  GPA must be between a B to C average.

MELINDA BAUSBACK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  One $135 award.  Applicant must plan to pursue a degree in the fine arts area, with music students receiving first consideration.  Selection will also be based on student’s experience, academic achievement, athletic and extracurricular activities, leadership, community activities, and career choice.

NEW POINT VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPRTMENT SCHOLARHSIPS:  Four awards of $500 each.  Based on community service. Open to Batesville, Greensburg, North Decatur, South Decatur, and Jac-Cen-Del seniors.

NORMA BAINBRIDGE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  One $500 award.  Based on community involvement, evidence of academic capability and motivation, and essay.    

PSI IOTA XI SORORITY SCHOLARSHIP:  One $1000 award.  Applicant must pursue a major in one of the following fields:  Speech/Hearing, Art, Literature, or Music.     

ROBERT FRENCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  One $1,000 award / Renewable.  Applicant must pursue a degree in Pharmacy at Purdue University.

ROBERT HAMILTON AGRICULTURE AWARD:   One $500 award.  Applicant must have participated in agricultural interest and activities while in high school.

SADD CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS:  Two awards of $200 each.  The applicant must rank in the top half of his/her class.  This award provides financial assistance to the recipient for work in class and for actions / views against drug usage.

SARA KINKER SCHOLARSHIP:  One $500 award.  Applicant must have participated in Band, Choir, and/or Pirateers while in high school.  Based on academic achievement, test scores, experience, etc.

SHRIVER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  One $500 award.  This scholarship is based on all factors in a student’s experience and behavior such as academic achievement, athletic and extracurricular activities, leadership, interests, community activities, financial need, etc.  Student must attend a post-secondary school in Indiana.

STUDENT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP:  One $500 award.  Applicants must have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, be an officer of a class or school organization, etc.

TREE CITY SADDLE CLUB AWARD:  One $500 award.  Applicant must plan to pursue a degree in the Equine, Veterinarian and Vet. Tech., or Agriculture Industry. Based on academic achievement, athletic and extracurricular activities, leadership, community activities, career choice, etc.

TRI KAPPA SCHOLARSHIPS:  The number and amounts of the awards will vary.  Applicants must have at least a 3.0 grade point average.  Based on activities, commitment, essay, and recommendation.      

WILLIAM B. DISNEY RECOGNITION FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT:  One $500 award.  Based on leadership, character, Americanism, and written essay. **Deadline:  Must be mailed and received before Saturday, April 1st to scholarship committee

WOMEN EDUCATORS SCHOLARSHIP:   One $200 award.  Applicant must be a graduating high school female who plans to pursue a degree in education at an accredited institution.

   - Click on the black box that pops out to the right to download applications. Please note  there are pages of scholarships.

    - Choose each scholarship application and download and don't forget to save application to your computer when editing.

 2.  Tip:  To keep lines from moving on scholarship applications:

  a. Highlight the line & click on U (underline) then at highlighted  area begin      typing. This needs to be done for each line.

 3.  Read all directions outlined in the scholarship packet or listed on line carefully BEFORE you begin the application process.

                           SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION SHEET

      All local scholarship information is handled by Ms. Auffenberg.  Applicants may pick up necessary information and direct all questions to the High School Counseling Office unless otherwise instructed by specific individual scholarships.

      All local scholarship application information will be provided to applicants in two forms: 

as a hard copy and also available on the High School Counseling Department’s website www.greensburg.k12.in.us [click on Greensburg High School, click on School Counseling, click on 2017 GCHS Local Scholarships, and keep clicking on the folder icons until you have access to all scholarship applications].  All completed scholarship applications must be submitted in hard copy form.     
      
ALL APPLICANTS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES!!!!!

   1.  It is important for applicants to provide the proper required information for consideration of all individual scholarships.

   2.  All local scholarship applications require a transcript.  A transcript will automatically be added to each scholarship application submitted.

   3.  Applicants should TYPE application materials.  The Counseling Department will not be able to type individual scholarship materials for all students.  Therefore, it will not be done for any student.  It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit his/her completed application ready to be forwarded for consideration to the proper committee.

   4.  If a scholarship application requires a letter of recommendation from a teacher, the  applicant should give a teacher ample time to write such a letter.  The applicant should request that the written letter be placed in a sealed envelope.  It is the applicant’s  responsibility to collect the letter of recommendation from the individual teacher and  turn in a complete scholarship application package to Ms. Auffenberg by the indicated deadline.

  5.  An applicant must submit his/her application(s) by the appropriate deadline(s).  All scholarships have a due date.  In a majority of cases this deadline is NOON onTHURSDAY, APRIL 6th .  After this date applications will be immediately forwarded to their proper scholarship committees.  Therefore, scholarship applications cannot be accepted after the deadline.
